What Is Hard Water and Why Is It Bad for You?

Hard water contains high levels of minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and lead. While these minerals may seem harmless, they can:

Dry out your skin by stripping away natural oils.
Cause buildup on your hair, making it look dull and lifeless.
Leave residue on your shower surfaces, leading to limescale and soap scum.
Expose you to harmful metals like lead and copper, which may have long-term health effects.

By filtering out these impurities, Koia helps you enjoy softer skin, shinier hair and a cleaner shower.

How do I install the Koia Shower Filter

No tools required, no fuss.

Step 1: Prep & Flush Your Purifier

Before installing, run water through your Koia Shower Filter to rinse out any loose carbon particles. You may notice dark or grey-tinted water at first—this is completely normal! Continue flushing until the water flows clear. Repeat on both ends.

Step 2: Remove Your Current Shower Head

Carefully unscrew your existing shower head by twisting it counterclockwise. Most can be removed by hand, but if it's too tight, use a wrench.

Step 3: Seal the Connection

Wrap the included Koia sealing tape tightly around the shower arm thread and purifier thread about 5-7 times to create a secure, leak-free seal. (There is no need to use the small, white rubber o-rings that came with the filter. The tape alone is sufficient enough).

Step 4: Attach Your Koia Shower Purifier

Screw your Koia Shower Purifier onto the shower arm by turning it clockwise until snug. Then, attach your shower head the same way, ensuring a firm connection. If additional tightening is needed, use a soft cloth and a wrench to gently secure it.

Think "righty tighty, lefty loosey" when installing or removing parts! Always turn clockwise to secure and counterclockwise to remove

When Should I Replace My Filter?

To maintain optimal filtration, replace your Koia Universal Shower Cartridge:

  • Every 3 months for households of 4 or more people.
  • Every 6 months for households of 2 people.

Regular replacement ensures your filter continues removing chlorine, heavy metals, and other impurities for the freshest, cleanest shower experience.

How to Replace Your Filter

Installing your Koia Shower Filter is quick and easy. Just flush the filter with water to remove any loose carbon particles. The water may appear dark or grey at first, but this is normal. Continue until the water runs clear. Then, twist open the casing, remove the old cartridge and replace it with the new one, ensuring the stainless steel mesh is at the top. That’s it! Your filter is ready to go.
